ADJUSTMENTS/ MANIPULATION
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of the chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.
The adjustment made by the chiropractor consists of a gentle force to a vertebra. Adjustments can be done by the hands or by the use of a gentle instrument.
Chiropractors apply therapy to the patient in the form of electric muscle stimulation and ultrasound prior to the adjustment. This therapy helps the patient heal faster and allows the Chiropractor to give a longer lasting adjustment.
